Weekly Observations: 2012 Weeks 14, 15, 16, and 17
I apologize for not posting this sooner, my hosts DNS was down for a week and I could update the blog. Then last week I was transitioning a couple of sites to a new host. This blog and its accompanying review site should be moved over this weekend. And there will probably be outages off an on. If you have any issues after Monday, please let me know.
The Stuff You Should Know podcast on music sampling is really informative and is worth checking out. They cover a lot of history on the topic as well as playing samples for illustration. Apparently they have been receiving requests for more music related podcasts!
NPR had an interview with Anoshka Shankar about her Spanish Indian fusion music. I am always interested to hear mixed styles, especially when they are merged so seemlessly. The whole article at can be found on their site.
I found myself wondering, if the boss in Prince’s "Raspberry Beret" had to talk to the narrator that many times about slacking off, why didn’t he just fire him? I guess it would make for a very short song.
My awesome grandma renewed my Megadeth Cyber Army membership for my birthday, I should have two live CDs coming that I will eventually post reviews of.
Speaking of reviews, I am still really backlogged (about submissions 16 behind, I believe) but am trying to get through them quickly. I posted a new review yesterday of Richard Osborn’s Giving Voice: Guitar Explorations and should have another review up in a day or two. Also, I hope to have a third review up this weekend if all goes well.
NPR also spotlighted Norah Jones’ new album. I’m normally not a fan of her work, but her new album sounds pretty captivating.
In sad news, Adam "MCA" Yauch died Friday. Hopefully in Heaven, he won’t have to fight for his right to party.
That’s all for this post, but I hope to have new posts up later this week. Stay tuned.
